A big part of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has collapsed into the water after it was struck by a big container ship.

Movies posted to social media confirmed a number of parts of the 1.6 mile-long bridge coming down into the Patapsco River together with quite a lot of vehicles that had been crossing on the time.

Baltimore Police say they’ve been notified of the bridge’s partial collapse and that quite a lot of persons are believed to be within the water.

The 47-year-old bridge has now been closed to site visitors, the Maryland Transportation Authority mentioned on X in a press release, citing an “incident”.

“All lanes closed each instructions for incident on I-695 Key Bridge. Visitors is being detoured,” it mentioned.

Baltimore’s mayor wrote on X: “I’m conscious of and en path to the incident on the Key Bridge. I’ve been in touch with [Fire] Chief Wallace, @GovWesMoore @JohnnyOJr, and @AACoExec. Emergency personnel are on scene, and efforts are underway.”

Ship was Singapore flagged ‘Dali’

The ship that crashed into the bridge was the Singapore vessel Dali.

In response to the Marine Visitors web site, the ship was certain for Colombo Port in Sri Lanka.

The boat’s size total (LOA) is 299.92 meters and width is 48.2 meters.
